The Vatican and St Peter's Basilica {The Holy City}

Sharing my dream trip with you has been so helpful in keeping my memories vivid. I will always be able to look back here and relive this!

I shared Day 1 and Day 2 and now for the day that truly was on my bucket list

You see, being an artist I was fascinted by great pieces of art and sculpture.

This place has it all

This was the day we had free to ourselves.

We purchased the tour of the Vatican and St. Peter's

Why?

I needed to see Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel! It was on my bucket list!
Unfortunately I could take pictures because it is a holy sacred place.

It is ok because there is no way I could show you the details and dimensions in a picture.

It was breathtaking!

The Vatican museums are filled. We didn't get a chance to see everything. No not even the Pope!

We saw beautiful paintings, sculpture and tapestries.

Then we entered St. Peter's Basilica and as I turned the corner I came across the Pieta.

I don't know what came over me but I lost it. I was crying like a baby and hid behind my camera till I could control myself. I guess I was a little overwhelmed.

All this I dreamed about seeing since I was a little girl.

Every thing from the floor to the ceiling was beautiful.

There was a peacefulness that filled the air.

It truly was a holy place.

On our return we ate lunch at a little cafe.

I had gnocchi. and look at that pizza!!!

Then we left to walk the streets of Rome to explore on our own.

We walked through an outdoor market with fresh produce and textiles that lined the streets.

We went to The Roman Forum. They are still excavating.

It is weird to see the ruins laying around to be assembled.

Loved this building by Michelangelo

This is where Caesar ruled!

We walked back and got ready for our last dinner in Roma!

Chicken green beans and potatoes
Lasagna
Chocolate torte

That night I sat at the rooftop bar drinking a Limoncello and thanking God for the chance to see this beautiful city and all it had to offer.

Next stop Pompeii, Amalfi/Sorrento Coast and Capri!!!

The Vatican is truly a very spiritual place whether you are Catholic or not. I can totally understand why you would have such an emotional reaction to the Pieta. Thanks so much for sharing your photos. It's been so long since I visited there, and I really want to go back someday. It's definitely on my bucket list to see it all again. I cried the first time I saw the Statue of Liberty so I know how you felt.

What a trip ! How very awesome, once-in-a-lifetime, beautiful, wonderful, trip ! Serene and Holy places do that to me. Something about the ultimate peace that comes over me. No matter how often I go, Chimayo in New Mexico is always very emotional for me. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your adventure.

Your post reminded me of something. We went to Notre Dame and I was really impressed and amazed and in awe. We went to St. Chapelle a few blocks away and I was like, oh um yeah. Looks little now comparatively. We went up the stairs (I thought we were going to the bell tower). Well, no it was the actual cathedral with the LARGE stained glass windows. I couldn't stop crying. It just lit up the room. Notre Dame was very dark, this was full of light. I've never been so overwhelmed by a place before. I guess the downstairs was where peasants worshipped. Places amaze me. The vatican is on my bucket list!
