Traveling Jewelry Box

This has been a busy summer and I am loving every minute! I cannot believe that very soon I will be traveling to Italy!!! I guess that is what was going through my mind when I created this project.

Refurbishing jewelry boxes is not a new thing to me. I just made and sold this small one that was a pretty pink!

After seeing my painted patina french nightstands featured on the ASUnfolded page, I was asked to teach a class for a store in Brentwood, Tennessee for 9-14 year olds using Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan.  I will tell you more about that in a few weeks.

Jewelry boxes came to mind when thinking of a different piece to paint. But I added Cool and Funky to it!


 I went looking for some vintage jewelry boxes and found a few. They remind me of little dressers. I wanted to make this fun and appealing to young and old.


Traveling is the theme and feel of this project........

Have you every dreamed of going somewhere far away or to an exotic island?

When I was a little girl I dreamed of traveling to see the beautiful oceans around the world. I dreamed of seeing all the great artwork from all those famous artists I have read about.

I have wanted to visit every state in the US too!


 So I started to paint with that vision in my head. First thing I needed was a suitcase!


 Next was a map with a destination! Maybe this was a starting point or maybe it is where I would go to board my plane!


 I know if I dare to dream it I could go anywhere and everywhere!


 Just knowing that "Every hundred feet....the world changes" was everything I needed to know!

So the creation came to be.

And now it waits to be seen and pined for or even purchased for another dreamer.


 I think we are going to have a blast in this class. I can't wait to see all the different designs from all the children! Yes I will share them with you.

    What a fun project and I think the teenagers will love it. I happen to have the ugliest jewelry box in the world and I never once thought about painting it! I will now. Thanks for the inspiration girl!

    Wow. I love everything about this. We're really into maps these days in our house. The colors are a fabulous match to make the map blend.

    this makes me want to go out and buy chalk paint haven't yet do mostly acrylics and spray inks in my art love your project so cool especially the use of the map have a great trip take lots of pics to show us when you get back zen hugs
