Painted Side Table

Love painting but sometimes I get in a rut.
I think it is because artists need time to refuel to be creative.
Blizzard 2016 seen to that for me.

We closed for two weeks in January to get ready for the new year. We do inventory, shop and pick, and redesign. Needless to say, it is NOT a vacation. The blizzard that hit my home was only 5-8 inches. That is huge for these parts though.
It kept me home bound long enough to rest my bones.
It also helped me envision my year and shoot for some new goals.

This is one of my first projects I finished for 2016.

French Dresser

I have been drawing and painting ever since I was a young child. My love for art blossomed and my thirst for creativity did too. I began falling in love with the masters. Impressionist painting was always a favorite. I lived a dream two years ago when I traveled to Italy and got to see the Sistine Chapel and other Michelangelo works, among others like Leonardo Da Vinci. There is nothing like seeing and feeling a piece of art.

I am telling you this because a few months ago, during a paint class, one of my students had a frame that she was going to paint but wanted me to throw away the print inside of it.
It happened to be a Renoir print.
I didn't have the heart to throw it away. I loved it. I also knew that I could incorporate it in one of my pieces one day.

So like many other ideas and supplies.....it ended up on a shelf.
You know the shelf....the :someday" shelf! Ha!

Well I got the perfect piece of furniture to do a fun technique on. A french dresser. This piece sat in back of the store for a while till I could come up with an idea.

and I finally did...

and that little print that was a "someday" project became the main attraction.

I decoupaged part of it to fit the flat part of the dresser.
It didn't fit perfectly.

The best part of art to me is that it doesn't have to.

With some of my Country Chic Chalk and Mineral based paint, I started mixing colors to match the print and began painting.

I added the paint where the paper seam was to make it look more fluid. The eye continues and doesn't stop at the straight cut of the paper.

It was so much fun to do. Since painting furniture, I haven't had time to truly paint a canvas type painting. This helped the urge a little.

The details of the dresser fit the look of the painting too.

I love when a project comes together like this one. It sits in the middle of the floor for sale at Dreamingincolor!

Call 615-907-0091 if interested.

Hope you learned a little, got inspired, and just like it!

French Chest Country Chic Paint

Whether you are new to this site or not you will notice real fast what I do around here!
Color and design is a passion of mine and has been for as long as I can remember.
I love to paint and that lends to the design work. One of the reasons I started carrying Country Chic Paint in my store Dreamingincolor, is because of the wonderful colors and packaging design. The way it can be manipulated, as an artist, is a strong point too, not to mention NO VOC's!

This week Country Chic Paints introduced its new 2015 Limited Edition spring colors. I used one of the new colors on the drawers of this chest. Pink lemonade. Pink Lemonade is a light coral/pink color. It looks great paired with Midnight Sky.

I also kept the original color on the pulls. They really are the jewelry on this piece.

Layered Patina Painted Hutch

I am really excited to show you another layered technique I have done. This time I used 7 different paint colors. I paint furniture like I paint canvas. One of the things I like to do when I paint, is study my subject. So I decided to start studying patinas.

I have started a Patina Pinterest board. From texture to colors and chippiness will get pinned there.

I used the same technique for the layered patina painted hutch as I did for my french end tables. The difference is the amount of colors and type of paint. I used Annie Sloan for the end tables and my new paint Country Chic for this hutch.

I started with my signature color paint Dreamingincolor. That is the base color that start the layered patina painted hutch.

Italian Carved Chair {Country Chic Paint}

If you have been around here long, you know I love French and Italian furniture. All the curves and carvings are perfect! It is a furniture painters candy.

When I came across this Italian carved chair my first thought was, "I am keeping this for myself!"
Unfortunately, it did not go in my living room and I didn't want to touch the perfect upholstery.

I knew exactly how I wanted to paint it. I used my layering technique. It is the same technique I used on this dresser.

I wanted the Italian carved chair to show all of its lovely details. Needless-to-say, I fell in love with it all over again. What do you think?

It took only two colors to achieve this look.

French Nightstand {Country Chic Paint}

Tropical Cocktail and Cheesecake sounds like something I would have on my next cruise. Although I do need a vacation, this is far from sun in my hair and a paper umbrella in my hand.

These are two colors from the Country Chic Paint Pallet! It is what i decided to use on my french nightstand,

Here at Dreamingincolor in Murfreesboro, TN we have been playing with all sorts of colors. Ever since the big freight truck brought us a pallet full.

When you paint a lot of furniture you welcome a little change. I am always thinking of color combinations and mixing some to get something unique. Like this pink nightstand.
I love that these colors are pastel and bright and give a great range. It all depends on the piece of furniture or my mood as to what gets painted what. It brings that "dream in color" to reality.

I love the layers on this french nightstand.

Vanity with Country Chic Paint

Being a blogger/artist I have tested many different paints and waxes. I like stunning color, versatility, ease, and coverage as I paint different techniques on furniture. I also need NO VOC's because that is important for our health and environment. Now that a have a store it is important to have paint to offer my customers that does the same.

I am so excited to announce that I will be selling Country Chic Paint!
