Patriotic Games

I grew up knowing the meaning of being patriotic. Knowing how to respect the flag and my country. Red, White and Blue was something to be proud of.
For me, decorating with the flag and patriotic decor brings back wonderful memories of my childhood.

I had a conversation about this the other day with a customer at my store. Her son is in the military. She was concerned about how children today view our patriotic holidays and if they even knew the meaning. Made me wonder....

We said the Pledge of Allegiance in school and even sang patriotic hymns. They made me proud and happy. I admired the soldiers that fought for our freedom as I do today. Red, White and blue was family and friends, apple pie and picnics.

It is up to us to teach our children well

We have had some wonderful memories and my family continues the traditions.

This holiday I will grill out again, put up my patriotic decor and enjoy my family.
I will pray for the men that continue to fight for our freedom and the families that have given up so much

My home will have my DIY flags and decor like my paint stick flag above. My store will be decorated again with the wonderful bunting I made using my Old Time Pottery vinyl cloth. It looks like Old time USA!

This year I added to the fun. I enhanced a Game of Corn Hole and Tic-Tac-Toe, purchased at Old Time Pottery, by painting it with the stars and strips creating a Patriotic Yard Game. It was a fun and easy project that I think old and young will appreciate

Find out how to make it over at the Old Time Pottery Blog!

I would love to know what your traditions are for the holidays we in America celebrate.

Do you create your own decor?

Lace, Trim, Pearls and Fabric Flag

Three cheers for the red, white and blue! July 4th, Independence Day!

It is right around the corner!

Lots of Booms and Sparkles!

The day we celebrate freedom!

Freedom isn't free ..... as they say.

A lot have sacrificed for us and I hope people remember that.

That is why I always hang a flag somewhere to remind me how important that word is and how blessed I am living in the USA.

I love all the beautiful countries out there and I love some of their flags too. But I am an American, and I celebrate that fact.

So today as I was stumbling in my craft room picking up scraps of things. I decided to create this Lace, Trim, Pearls and Fabric Flag.

The last time I made a flag was my when I made my paint stick flag. I wanted to do something different. So I started with all my trim scraps!

Paint Stick Flag

With Memorial Day around the corner, I wanted to add something to the picnic area in the yard. I always hang an American Flag in the back. It is the best decor for this day!

I was playing around with paint sticks......
I know you are saying " she's at it again!" I love thinking up things with paint sticks. It will be hard to top my utensil organizer seen here
But this is something fun for Memorial day or any day. A folky/beachy looking distressed flag.

It's real simple but you need paint sticks! 7 to be exact! Don't worry they are FREE!

Red, White and Blue paint and antiquing glaze
two eye hooks and wire
clay
glue

Gather 7 paint sticks

I didn't cut handle but you can if you want a sharper edge. Paint red and white. Make sure you start and end with a red one. Paint a blue square in top left corner.

start distressing with antique glaze

I added a little ink too!
The get some clay and and sculpt a starfish. I used the back of a small paintbrush to texture it. Then glaze it.

Add eye hooks to the top and wire for hanging

Glue star on blue square

Since we are having a round of bad storms coming through I am unable to hang it out side.
I'll update later when it clears up.

Update:

Hope you like it! Since I had the clay paint and hangers this was a free to me project!
