Harry Potter Party

Love fall and all it has to offer in decorating. This year the weather has been cooperating and it has been pretty nice and comfortable. Oaklands Mansion in Murfreesboro had its first Oktoberfest and Dreamingincolor had some fun!

I thought it would be nice to decorate with a Harry Potter theme for fall and have a party. We got all decked out on our porch with a Harry scarecrow and Hogwarts train.

Signs on the Highway

Signs, Signs, Everywhere there's Signs....

I grew up paying attention to signs.
Me and my dad used to read them backwards on long trips to pass the time away.
Then when I grew up I became a sign painter.
Even now, I will drive down the road and know when a color was changed or a new one was put up.

Attractions

That is the blue signs on the interstate letting you know there is something awesome at that exit. I like to take detours sometimes to see where they will take me. Of course, there are all the food signs too! And sometimes you find a local restaurant that is really good.

Where am I going with all of this?

A few weeks ago, Dreamingincolor became a sign on the interstate!! From blog to sign!

Is this real? This is super exciting for me!!

Dreamingincolor Summer Mantel {Beach Dreamin}

Summer is upon us and we have decorated a few times here at the store.
One of the things I most enjoy is rearranging the store.
Dreamingincolor has made a name for itself by having fun vignettes set up around each room.
The problem is the don't stay long before we are rearranging again!!
I am not complaining. It is a good problem to have.

We are excited to be celebrating summer. Decorating for summer is something I do all year long at my home. I use vintage suitcases and some beachy things all around. I dream of the beach all the time. I miss the salty air and even the sand that can be annoying most of the time.

Owning a store has put a little cramp in my travel plans. It is hard to leave. So not sure I will be getting to the beach this year.
That is how I came up Dreamingincolor's summer mantel.

What is so neat about this sign is what it is made of.

My Blogiversary Giveaway!

I thought about it all weekend. I wanted to do something worthy of all my precious followers! I wanted to do something that really represented me. Something to celebrate ONE year of blogging! I knew I couldn't do a piece of furniture since it would be to hard to ship. So I thought I would give you a service.

I hand paint signs and also do vinyl signs. Sometimes I just do them to relax. Sometimes I do them for order. Either way, I decided I would offer a custom sign to the winner of my giveaway. Something that they can decide color and content.

It also could be one of the signs I have already done.  This is my new one!

I took the inspiration from something I had seen on the internet.

It's My Birthday an I have a WISH!

Well it WAS my birthday yesterday and I took a break....kinda.....well not really.

I spent my birthday eve painting and moving furniture and helping my friends move into their new spaces at La Vie En Rose Cottage.

Jennifer from Southern Junk Chic is moving in!

Mary painting furniture!

The place was a mess but in a good way! We are scurrying because it was pretty empty from selling.

Mary moved into her new space and I didn't get home till 3am in the morning. Needless to say, I am too old for that!!!

Yesterday morning I priced all my handmade items for a Christmas Soiree.

Ballard Design Knock Off Theatre Sign Tutorial

I love making signs for a living. As I told you before I don't make too many for my blog. I did however make some Ticket Signs that have been very popular! It all started as a gift for my "Theatre Girl"

Then Ballard Designs came out with a "Theatre Sign"! I mean how can I pass up this little piece of inspiration.

Theatre Sign
I started with the same size board that they used. I did not frame it in glass. I felt there was no need to do that. I painted the board beige and made wide stripes to paint red.

I made them equal and each side a partial stripe to look like it was continuing off the board.

I taped the lines to give a sharper edge. This doesn't have to be too perfect because it needs to look distressed. I painted the red starting at the first stripe skipping every other one and ending with another red one.

I pulled off the tape and started to distress it with antiquing glaze. Here is a closer look.

Although this looks screened, I cut white vinyl to go down first to outline the word.

I added the black on top but felt like it was missing something. So I added a border.
It is hard to see the distressing in the picture. It is my first one so I can tweak it from here.

Either way I think my "Theatre Girl" will love it!

Ballard Design Knock Off Ticket Sign

You can now order this sign HERE!!!!

I have to give Carrie over at Dittle Dattle the credit for this inspiration! She did one and got me thinking that this would be perfect for my theatre girl. Being a sign painter I usually don't make them for myself. Kinda like a mechanic that don't work on his car or a doctor that doesn't go to one when sick!

But I had to do this one! If you have access to a vinyl cutter it is so easy! If not go to a sign shop and ask them to cut some for you and you can apply it yourself.

I started with the Ballard inspiration.......

 Vintage Ticket Plaque
I got the dimensions from them 12"hx24"wx1/4"d and cut a piece of finished wood to look like a ticket.

I love the way it turned out! This is for my theatre girl! She is gonna love this! It will go with the whole Hollywood/Broadway theme she has all over!

I left some of the vinyl off to make it look older.

Thanks Carrie for the inspiration!

Now to go pop some popcorn!

YOU CAN NOW PURCHASE A TICKET IN MY ETSY SHOP ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THIS BLOG!
