HGTV Urban Oasis

What a great experience to be part of the amazing group of people. Bloggers, designers, stylists, architects and media all gathered for the reveal. I had the pleasure in touring this urban gem a few months ago. This was a really fun HGTV Urban Oasis excursion. I wish I had the time to write about this right away but the holidays were here quicker than I anticipated.

My favorite part was meeting Designer Brian Patrick Flynn. He has a great eye. Loved how he incorporated artsy design elements and of course color. I have been in so many other design homes that are blah. No color, very monochromatic and it just bores me. I am not saying there isn't a place for it but I do enjoy color more. Speaking of color PINK doors!! and it works so well.

Back to Brian! He has a great personality and I think I have a designer crush on him. I stalk follow him on social media and can't wait to see what he does next.

The house was not huge, which I liked, but the layout was perfect and flowed great.

Brian uses a lot of local art and artist in the spaces he creates. The colors he used were the colors I used in my design space here. Maybe that is why we clicked. Ha!

There were so many great elements to this house and I took tons of pictures. I don't want to flood this post with too many but I do have a few more.

Loved this bedroom. Full of color and charm. This floor was amazing too. Notice the black trim. In no way does this room look dark and dreary either.

No space was left undone. The yellow and blue on this patio is so refreshing. I love the combo.
Off to the side was a little room. Brian decided to have fun with it and created an artist work space.

Thanks again Brian for the HGTV Urban Oasis Dream. Wish I could have won this. It is not too far from home in Knoxville Tennessee!

Have you seen the 2018 HGTV Dream Home? Gig Harbor! It may have some Millennial Pink in there some where. Brian did another amazing job!  I have my sweepstakes entry in. The view is breathtaking.

Thanks for keeping me inspired to be a better stylist.

Pink and Navy Bedroom Design

I was thrilled to be asked to decorate for this newly renovated home on Maney Drive. When I was shown the space I knew I wanted it to be a girls room. Pink and Navy was my design choice for color. Accents of gold just set off the room and the more I did the more I fell in love with these colors.

Since the house had already sold, I wasn't able to put paint on the walls so I just used some creative different elements. My favorite furniture in the space are these antique Bombay style french chests I used as side tables. I painted them a deep navy. The color looked great with the sold brass details.

The gold rose is one of my paper sculpture flowers and I used an architectural piece of molding to bring your eye up the huge wall. Using vintage furniture with detail and texture complimented all the new pieces that were added like pillows and bedding.

There was a little nook cut out between the closets so I created a dressing area with this adorable vintage vanity and wicker chair.

I love that we upholster at Dreamingincolor. This was an ugly old chair that was redone and painted in the store. It was a perfect corner piece for this room.

Antique pink and gold painted chest fit perfect at the end of the bed.

The builder kept all the original flooring, fireplace and doors and molding. They just refinished them and added beautiful tile around the fireplace.

Although there were things I would have done different if this was a full design, like window treatments and a rug to ground the bed, I still like the look.

Totally enjoyed meeting everyone associated with this project. I love designing and this was a treat.
I was also asked to add some to the bonus room in this home. More on that later. Here is a little before and after for you to enjoy.

So what do you think of the pink and navy bedroom design?
All of these pieces are available for purchase at Dreamingincolor store.

Upholstery in Tennessee

It is really hard to find someone that does upholstery. It is even harder to find someone that does it well. I am proud to announce the Dreamingincolor now offers upholstery in Tennessee. Murfreesboro residence and beyond have been eager to get there furniture pieces renewed. So glad we can offer that here.

We have done quite a few in a short time. I would like to show you a couple. This settee is from the 1800's. It had horse hair in the seat and was very crunchy. Ha! We painted the wood to reveal the carvings and totally redid the upholstery and filling.

This was another piece from the 1800's. It was missing the whole bottom. This upholstery is tufted with covered buttons on back. All restored and beautiful.

This chair is a personal favorite. I love the brass nail heads used to accentuate the curves. This chair was painted in Driftwood, The Ikat looking material really brings it up to date.

These are just a few of the pieces that have been restored. The upholstery took it to the present and would make any home look custom.

Scroll down to see the befores. They really transformed!!

Custom Desk at Dreamingincolor

Painting pretty things is a passion of mine. I love seeing a piece transformed. I love when furniture that may have winded up in a land fill or dump have been rescued. I love the way people care about this now. As a designer/artist I see furniture as statement pieces and even works of art in a home.

Now that I have my store, I am usually painting those custom pieces specifically for the customers that walk in the door with their favorite hand me down. Lots of my clients have trouble when it comes to picking colors for their pieces. I work with them by looking at their pictures and pinterest pages.

Painting unique pictures, details, monograms and stripes on furniture are my specialty. I have painted chevron and patterns before like my antique wardrobe and pictures like my Audrey Hepburn Piece. This time I found a wonderful french desk that I wanted to paint black and white stripe.

For those that are not sure about color, black and white will always go. I chose those colors for my custom desk at Dreamingincolor.

I went back and forth on making a decision to stripe it or use a script. The stripes won and I am so glad they did. I love the boldness of the piece and the endless style.

Now that laptops are used, people don't need big desks and these are an accent in the home.I sell a lot of  desks like these.

Hand written notes are a thing of the past but I must admit that I love doing that on occasion. It is so fresh and personnel.
I can just imagine days gone by with a young lady writing or reading at this desk.

I have a french style desk in my home that I have painted and love. It is a great place to use my laptop to create my designs and write a sweet card. My paint swatches sit fanned on top. I love it sitting in my living room.

I hope someone will come in that will cherish this lovely one.

I used Country Chic Simplicity which is a bright white and Licorice which is a true black. I did not distress this piece. I will let it wear naturally. I did wax it in a clear wax. I replaced two knobs and left the others original. The knobs are like the jewelry on the piece. These have silver studs around them. I love the edge it gives this desk.

Adding pops of color can change this piece and the feel in the room in gets placed in. Most people don't realize how important the right colors are in your home. That is the biggest challenge people have when I go to their home for a redesign.

I try to stay away from always doing neutrals. In this case it works. There is a place for it don't get me wrong and every room should have some but I have been so many places that have no color at all. I love color and will always decorate with it. This is not called Dreamingincolor for nothing! Ha!

Adding accent color to the neutrals in your home will give it life.

The green is just the pop of color I was looking for. This pretty chair adds a little character. Makes it appealing for the customer too.

This is a one-of-a-kind custom desk at Dreamingincolor that someone can add to their home. I reinvented piece from the 50's that is solid wood, Not like the pieces of today that fall apart when you move them. This is something that will be around a while.

This is the before:

Really needed updating

I hope you like the transformation.
