HGTV Urban Oasis

What a great experience to be part of the amazing group of people. Bloggers, designers, stylists, architects and media all gathered for the reveal. I had the pleasure in touring this urban gem a few months ago. This was a really fun HGTV Urban Oasis excursion. I wish I had the time to write about this right away but the holidays were here quicker than I anticipated.

My favorite part was meeting Designer Brian Patrick Flynn. He has a great eye. Loved how he incorporated artsy design elements and of course color. I have been in so many other design homes that are blah. No color, very monochromatic and it just bores me. I am not saying there isn't a place for it but I do enjoy color more. Speaking of color PINK doors!! and it works so well.

Back to Brian! He has a great personality and I think I have a designer crush on him. I stalk follow him on social media and can't wait to see what he does next.

The house was not huge, which I liked, but the layout was perfect and flowed great.

Brian uses a lot of local art and artist in the spaces he creates. The colors he used were the colors I used in my design space here. Maybe that is why we clicked. Ha!

There were so many great elements to this house and I took tons of pictures. I don't want to flood this post with too many but I do have a few more.

Loved this bedroom. Full of color and charm. This floor was amazing too. Notice the black trim. In no way does this room look dark and dreary either.

No space was left undone. The yellow and blue on this patio is so refreshing. I love the combo.
Off to the side was a little room. Brian decided to have fun with it and created an artist work space.

Thanks again Brian for the HGTV Urban Oasis Dream. Wish I could have won this. It is not too far from home in Knoxville Tennessee!

Have you seen the 2018 HGTV Dream Home? Gig Harbor! It may have some Millennial Pink in there some where. Brian did another amazing job!  I have my sweepstakes entry in. The view is breathtaking.

Thanks for keeping me inspired to be a better stylist.

Dreamingincolor at Haven

Everyone is jumping on the bandwagon posting about their Haven experiences. It helps when running out of an idea to blog about! I have had a few myself. In a nutshell, I had a blast! I met at least a hundred woman (I have that many business cards) with the same likes as I have. Intelligent talented woman! These woman were eager to share their knowledge.

I came home with bags of free stuff and a few things I won!

Annie Sloan paint and a Ryobi  slide compund miter saw with laser and stand. Can you tell I'm excited?

One problem! Pictures were mostly taken with my phone. Not good! annnddd they were mostly taken the last day which explains the same clothes in every picture ugh! Not good at all, especially since my Canon Rebel was in the hotel room.

There were workshops about Google Juice, Waterfall effects and the scary "M" monster!!!

There were cocktail parties with signature drinks, girls buying rounds, and  waffles!

Intriguing conversations about wood, milk paint and yogurt!

If you don't get it you will just have to go next year! If you do get it you have memories of laughter and brain farts!

Of course all of this was great but the thing that was most important were all the connections made with friends!

Lots of friend not enough pictures taken!

This blog thing has turned into quite an adventure! I took off by myself and entered a world that was sooo much bigger than I thought.

I was welcomed in and embraced with knowledge and friendship. Thanks to everyone that attended!

I took a leap about a year ago when I helped Layla and Kevin from The Lettered Cottage, traveling alone to help with a redo in Buford, GA. That is were I met Rhoda from Southern Hospitality and she told me about heading up a new conference for Home and DIYer's. I knew that is where I wanted to be!

So take a chance and get yourself out there! There are so many people to meet and adventures to go on. It takes one step in that direction! The rest is a domino effect!

Where has taking a chance with your blog taken you?

DIY Network or HGTV

I love watching design shows. They stimulate and make me want to create something beautiful. I have been watching design shows forever! I remember watching Robb Weller on The Home Show when it first aired. Who can forget Christopher Lowell? He probably got me thinking outside the box the most. I first learned how to paint furniture from him.

But when Home and Garden Television entered the scene I was in heaven. I could not wait to watch the next design show. My husband got tired of my constant reference to "what they do on HGTV" and all the hogging of the television to watch "just one more show"

Everyday there was a show just as good as the day before. OH! I miss those days!!

What happened? I can't turn on the channel anymore. I am always looking for new design shows but all I ever find is property shows.

That is why I was so excited when Layla and Kevin from The Lettered Cottage did a pilot for HGTV. I did a post on it here. Then I got discouraged when I found out they did not accept it. COME ON HGTV!!! You need them! The production company is going to send it to other networks to see if they will pick it up.

I have been watching more of the DIY Network lately. At least when I get the chance to sit down and watch a little TV. The surprise....there are design shows on DIY Network. Imagine that. Is HGTV trying to push us to that network. I know they are related so maybe that is what they are trying to do. I don't get it.

So I ask you.......DIY Network or HGTV? Which one do you prefer?

Maybe the pilot will go on to the DIY Network
