Starburst Clock

Don't you wish you had more time?

Well I can't help you there but what I can do is show you how to keep track of it creating this trendy Starburst Clock.

If you look in all the magazines lately you will see another "old" trend resurfacing. Starbursts!
Starburst mirrors, clocks and wall decor. The are made from everything, wood, metal, and various objects. If you look at this trend you will also notice they can be quite pricey.

When I see something too trendy I decide it is better to make it myself. It saves money, period.
This is not always the case but when you shop smart you can make some affordable decor.
I love the ease of this project too.

There are few supplies and steps to achieve this look.
On my little shopping excursion to Old Time Pottery I fell in love with these clocks and the colors available. Turquoise is another trend right now and boy do we love it!

I found a 16" clock that was turquoise with white numbers and silver chrome casing. This is how I got started.

There were all types of silverware. I went with a complete set so I had different sizes and varieties. Large and small forks and spoon. I left the knives out this time. I matched the chrome with the clock casing.
*NOTE Make sure the silverware utensil handles are flat. I learned this by doing. It is much easier to apply when flat

You may notice a table in this picture. I am going to use this too. Lets just say you are getting two for the price of one project today. You can choose your favorite!

One important thing to have on hand for this Starburst Utensil Clock is E6000. The glue will set the silverware firmly to the back of the clock.

Choose which utensils you want to use. To keep them spaced apart I used the minutes on the clock as my measuring guide and a sharpie to mark on the side where I need to glue. This help so there is no flipping the clock back and forth.

Use something heavy to place on top of handle. The weight will help the piece adhere to the glue. Let dry overnight.

Love the fun look!

And remember the table from above. It is a 15" inch round. The 16" clock fit perfect on the top of it to make it in to a clock table.

Talk about simple! I love the look and it fits perfectly.

So there you have it. A clock used in two trendy affordable ways.
Some great home decor or back to school furniture.

Cubbies

I found a really different shelf.

Only a blogger can make a shelf something interesting. Huh?

I think someone made it.  It is old and made of wood.

The thing that got me was the shape. It looked like a little house.

and it had some cubbies........we all love cubbies.

When I bought it, I knew it would make a great display shelf.

I wanted to play off the shape and turn it into a cubby for my birds.

A little bit of paint did the trick.

I added cute little numbers to it. My numbers gave it some whimsy.

I used numbers that are used for clocks. I bought them from Hobby Lobby to keep for fun projects like this one.  It is like giving my birdies an address.

and I am yearning for spring

so this little project made me feel like it is just around the corner

I love my nest too......

more hope for spring

And as I sit in my sun room with the sun streaming in through the window, I feel it is close

So this might be a small project redo but I love the way it came out and how it represents something new and fresh

Now my birds sit proud as they await the crackling of the egg.......

Isn't that what spring is about?

                                                         Aren't you ready for it?

Interior Decoration {Anthropologie Inspired Mirror}

  1. Don't forget to enter my blogiversary giveaway!

Who says you have to go to Interior Design School?  School is a good thing but there is so much to learn now online. Looking at blogs and magazines, there are many designers teaching you everyday. Google+ has videos. Pinterest has become an online design school where we can pin the latest designers work with step by step instructions. Another favorite place to get my "online interior design school" inspiration is surfing through catalogs. All the great stores and designers are on the web. A design school mecca. I also like going to the stores. A big inspiration, was last month when I was in NYC, all the design elements were amazing. Loved the accessories too.

As I was looking at stores, I remembered one I was in that had a beautiful mirror adorned with a pine cone looking flower. It was in Anthropologie of course! Always good inspiration there. So I snapped a picture of the interior decoration. I was going to knock it off!

I really didn't want to use my framed mirrors. I wanted to do something different. I purchased a box of plain mirror tiles. They are very inexpensive. I only needed one so I put the others away for another project.

I needed something to mount it on so I put together some garden stakes for a platform. I applied a watered down paint to the boards so the wood grain would show. I used blue, green and white, alternating the colors.

I glued the sticks together with wood glue and attached with screws, two flat wooden paintsticks to the back to hold it together.

I used two mirror hinges and screwed them to the back for hanging on the wall. Measured down equally on both sides.

Then I started cutting pine cones, and cutting and cutting. Little flowers just like the flowers I made for the Shabby Chic Pine Cone Frames I made.

Aren't the so pretty? I love they way they look. There are so many things you can make with these. I know your mind is turning.

I used liquid nails for the back of mirror and attached it to the painted side of the board. I attached it and forgot to take a picture AAAAhhhhhhhhh then I took it off that is why the glue looks this way.

I continued gluing around the mirror. Alternating sizes. I even used the bottom of one turned upside down.

Let dry and hand or leave on a shelf. I hung it on the wall in my sun room. The colors look so nice in there.

So this is my version of the original. My knock-off decor. Interior design comes in all ways. Online, magazines, stores etc.  Aren't we lucky to have all these wonderful places to get inspiration? Adding your own personal style and creativity to it makes it perfect for you.

I hope you like it and create something for yourself. I hope I inspired you to see something different!
