English Yellow End Table

A yellow rose and its meaning. Admiration, joy, friendship

When I hear English Yellow I think of Princess Diana the English Rose. I remember the sadness when she died. Elton John did a tribute to her "Goodbye England's Rose" to the tune of Candle in the Wind"

Goodbye England's rose
May you ever grow in our hearts
You were the grace that placed itself
Where lives were torn apart
You called out to our country
And you whispered to those in pain
Now you belong to heaven
And the stars spell out your name

Flash forward to today.

We celebrate the birth of a prince! Princess Diana's Son Prince William and his wife Catherine named their son Prince George Alexander. What a celebration!

That is how I view the color yellow. Happy and sad.

What does this have to do with furniture?

Haven Conference {The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly}

Just got back from the Haven Conference in Atlanta. I spent 4 days at the Hyatt in Buckhead with some of the most creative talented women and (some men) that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I am ready to buy next years ticket!

I met up with some friends I regularly talk to on Facebook. It was so great to finally meet them in person.
Kirby, Karen  and Lorraine.. she happened to be my roommate.

Dreamingincolor at Haven

Everyone is jumping on the bandwagon posting about their Haven experiences. It helps when running out of an idea to blog about! I have had a few myself. In a nutshell, I had a blast! I met at least a hundred woman (I have that many business cards) with the same likes as I have. Intelligent talented woman! These woman were eager to share their knowledge.

I came home with bags of free stuff and a few things I won!

Annie Sloan paint and a Ryobi  slide compund miter saw with laser and stand. Can you tell I'm excited?

One problem! Pictures were mostly taken with my phone. Not good! annnddd they were mostly taken the last day which explains the same clothes in every picture ugh! Not good at all, especially since my Canon Rebel was in the hotel room.

There were workshops about Google Juice, Waterfall effects and the scary "M" monster!!!

There were cocktail parties with signature drinks, girls buying rounds, and  waffles!

Intriguing conversations about wood, milk paint and yogurt!

If you don't get it you will just have to go next year! If you do get it you have memories of laughter and brain farts!

Of course all of this was great but the thing that was most important were all the connections made with friends!

Lots of friend not enough pictures taken!

This blog thing has turned into quite an adventure! I took off by myself and entered a world that was sooo much bigger than I thought.

I was welcomed in and embraced with knowledge and friendship. Thanks to everyone that attended!

I took a leap about a year ago when I helped Layla and Kevin from The Lettered Cottage, traveling alone to help with a redo in Buford, GA. That is were I met Rhoda from Southern Hospitality and she told me about heading up a new conference for Home and DIYer's. I knew that is where I wanted to be!

So take a chance and get yourself out there! There are so many people to meet and adventures to go on. It takes one step in that direction! The rest is a domino effect!

Where has taking a chance with your blog taken you?

Things to help you with your blog

As you already know I am going to Haven to participate in their first ever conference in Atlanta. Well this is my first conference too. I am excited and a little apprehensive. I feel like a fish out of water. There are many things I still don't know. That is one reason I am going. I am still such a newbie!

One thing I finally did was to create a Facebook page for my blog. This was quite easy and I can't believe it took me this long to do it. Why do we hold ourselves back?

So please like my facebook page!!! Just click the link in my sideboard or below.

I consider this to be a big milestone for me since I am not very techie!

The next thing I did was to have business cards made up. I already have some for MicucciDesigns but these are just for my blog. I used the button that I created in my sidebar for the logo. Then I added a QR code.Another biggie for me!!

This was FREE and it is awesome. It allows others to scan the barcode to go directly to your blog!
Just go to www.qrstuff.com to create your own.

I added this to my business card for easy access to my blog.  I cannot believe I did two major things like this. So far I stepped completely out of the box for this conference. Just what I wanted to do!
I owe it all to Beth at Home Stories A to Z. She had a post for new attendees and what to do and take there.

This will help all of you in blogworld! I wanted to pass this along. YOU CAN DO IT!

Now all I have to do is pack!! ...and clean...and laundry....and ....and....and..................

Gossip Chair

Now that I am back home I need to get started with furniture again. This is a simple gossip chair I found. Remember when we used to have telephones connected to wire. I remember going to an electronic store looking for the longest cord I could find so I could bring the phone into every room!  The cord would get pulled so much the coils eventually pulled out. Looking at this gossip chair it reminded me of that time.

Of course I forgot the before picture...drats! It needed a little work with loose spindles, but all in all it was in good shape.

I painted it grey and found an airmail envelope to modpodge on the desk part. Simple but cute.

I was attracted to this one because of the postmark. The year and the city and state! I felt like it  was meant to go on this piece. Tells a story!

This cute little bench will be in my booth soon!

I will be going to Haven next week and I am so excited!! I finally get to meet all of the wonderful people I have gotten to know. If you are going leave me a comment so I can meet you and say hi!

Blogging Conference

Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful people before the Blissdom conference. I am not attending Blissdom but the Middle Tennessee Bloggers met for a lunch and invited a few girls that were attending Blissdom.

I got to meet Alison of House of Hepworth, Gail for My Repurposed Life, Brittany from Pretty Handy Girl, Rose from Confessions of a Curbshopaholic, Sandra from Sawdust and Paper Scraps, Erin from Two Story Cottage, and Lisa from Condo Blues/Lazy Budget Chef.
The came from Texas to New York! And of course all my local blogging friends were there too!

It made me sad that I didn't get tickets to go to Blissdom. You see, after the HGTV shoot with Rhoda from Southern Hospitality I decided to attend Haven in Atlanta, Georgia instead! I am very excited to go. This little lunch even got me more pumped considering all the great people I was meeting!

There is still time to get tickets! I would love to meet all of you. If you are going to go please let me know so I can make sure to seek you out!
