Plant Stick with Pine Cone Nest

With Mother's Day coming soon I thought this would be a great project for adults or children to make for their moms. It is easy and inexpensive! These are the projects we like!!

A plant stick or pick which ever one you say, is something any mom would enjoy. This is a gift that can be for anyone though.

I have done other pine cone crafts before. I must love them!  Remember my Pine Cone frame? Another good idea for Mother's Day!
I also did an Anthro Knock off with them.

I have a bunch in my yard I collect to use for crafts. I love
being able to come up with different ideas for them.

Now if you don't have access to any you can purchase some. I started with a cardboard circle and took apart the pine cone to have separate pieces.

I used hot glue to attach two rows around the cardboard. (face up)

Then two more rows with piece face down. This went real fast.

The finished product looks like a nest. It is fun to do different looking nests. You can add moss and stuff to it but I wanted just the pine cone.

They make pretty flowers too!

Then I copied the pink bird graphic from The GraphicsFairy

I used card stock and cut out the image and mod podged it together. The mod podge forms a protective coating on the card stock. I then glued it to a craft stick.

I then inserted it in the whole of the nest and glued it.

For a nice presentation, I painted a pot from Old Time Pottery and transferred another bird image to the front.

Then when you give it as a gift, all they have to do is lift up the nest and insert it in a plant. Of course you can buy a plant and do the same, it is up to you!! If a child is doing this you can use regular glue.

I love how it can take an ordinary plant and make it look
super special.

Nest

Beautiful isn't it? The beach is always a great place to get wonderful pictures. This one looks like a postcard. I am back from my two week vacation. Back to reality. I have to say reality isn't that bad when you have had a break from it!!

Without boring you with many pictures and vacation posts I will end my trip with my favorite new store to find wonderful items, Nest 30A.

When I read the sign on the front of the building I knew I had to check it out. I mean who wouldn't be inquisitive with the name Nest.

The front porch was adorned with goodies to intrigue you to enter.

I was greeted by their furry baby (wish I got a picture of him) and by the owner Ali.

Her and her husband just moved to Florida from Birmingham. They opened this dream store recently.

Love the cubbies on this piece! The store was spilling over with fab furniture, accessories and art.

This cart was amazing. Made from reclaimed wood. Look at those wheels!!

Nice mirror reflecting the store and the little bird art was adorable.

This was one of my favorite pieces and don't you just love that big bottle on top and the floor mirrors that stood by its side.... wow!

All of the pieces were tagged with their signature tags, that Ali was proud to say, her husband created.

I love the atmosphere and friendly attitude. They were so welcoming and excited to show off their little piece of paradise. Everything was beautiful. The prices were great too! I am sure they will prosper in this location.

So if you are near 30A Seaside, Grayton Beach or any of the beautiful surrounding areas go check them out! I promise you won't be disappointed. 1414 County Highway 283 South, Unit C, Grayton Beach, FL.

For more great pictures go check out their Facebook page.

Thanks again Ali for the fabulous tour and the great shopping!!

Spring Nest

I was shopping at Old Time Pottery this weekend and came across this little planter. It was only .69 cents so I bought it and figured I would do something with it. The problem is I only bought one so I need to go back and get more. Why do I always do that? Note to self: When you see a deal at least pick up a couple more GEEZ!

I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. A sweet little spring nest to put in the sun room. I had some Spanish Moss and grabbed a handful.  I shaped it in my hand to form a nest and made a dent in the center and hot glued the frayed ends to look like this:

Oh yeah working with Spanish Moss is messy as you can see! Then I bought some fast drying white clay at Michaels for 6.50 but had a 40% off coupon so more like $3.90. You will only use a little but will have leftovers for future projects. I formed an egg-shape with the clay. Doesn't have to be perfect.

I used this, but any fast drying paintable clay will do. The eggs need to dry for at least a day before painting.
I used a turquoise blue acrylic paint for the eggs to give it some color. I used an old toothbrush dipped in brown and white paint to add a speckled look. Just run finger over bristles.

When paint is dry hot-glue to the inside of the nest. Add a little bird if you like! Too cute!

The finished product........

Happy Spring!
