Furry Easter Bunny Pillow

Bunnies are everywhere right now and we are getting ready for Easter. The porch has nothing. I have been so excited about decorating inside that the outside has been forgotten.  Just a little vignette is all I wanted and I think it is perfect for the adults and the kids. It was just the right amount of cuteness for some Easter outdoor decor.

I bought some supplies to make a pillow and Easter Decoration.

I love the fuzzy pillows that are all the rage right now. When I saw it I thought it looked like it was the fur of a bunny which led to my idea of making a bunny pillow. The silk flowers I bought had a fuzzy stem too. I decided it would be perfect to bend and make into ears for my pillow. I bent them to shape and wired them together.

I glued the bloom to the pillow for eyes and let the stem ears stick out above.

I found some stuffed pillow tops for mason jars that are used to make pin cushions. I used pipe cleaners for whiskers. Then turned the cushion upside down for the nose and glue it on.

Last but not least I put a bow tie under the nose and he was complete!

I placed him on the porch swing with the other pillows.

He has the most precious look on his face.

I placed a plant pot upside down that I decorated with colored ribbon. It looked like an Easter egg. This became his perch.

I found this large pink flower that I attached between the ears of the bunny to shade him from the sun.

We are ready for the Easter egg hunt now. The porch is not forgotten anymore. It is a happy seating area to watch when all the kids go search for their goodies. The Easter outdoor decor is already a hit with the neighbors.

So happy spring has finally arrived.

Happy Easter!!

Harry Potter Outdoor Decor

It's Fall!!

Well, officially anyways..it is in the 90's in Tennessee.

Doesn't matter though, I am in a decorating mood.

Making, creating, and designing using themed decor is something people enjoy. I have designed so many fun ideas over the years for clients and when decorating Dreamingincolor. It is a fun way for people to express themselves by relating to characters, books and movies. Sometimes they become part of our memories from childhood.

I have decorated with Alice in Wonderland, Wizard of Oz and Polar Express to name a few. I create a Tin man Candy dispenser here. This season Harry Potter is the theme for our Halloween/fall decor.

Inside we have  Olivander's wall of wands and a mantel of bottles and spells.
The great hall with floating candles and pumpkins.
I love this theme because not only is it really creative to work with these characters from the books and movies but it makes Halloween decorating festive without being scary. With the new Harry Potter book out this year I thought this would be a great idea.

Outdoor decorating is more of a challenge. I wanted a big enough impact. Then I found the most awesome blow-up!! I have to admit I usually hate these things. I feel they look tacky and cheap most of the time. This year though I couldn't resist. I think if it is put in the right setting it works.

I decided to create a scarecrow and use one of the blow ups I found. A DRAGON!!!

Don't you just love decorating?

Halloween is so much fun. I tend to get carried away with all the possibilities.

I had to build and create the Harry scarecrow first

I started with a couple of 1"x 2" sticks cut and put together like a cross
This will be the body of Harry

I screwed them together to make the base for the body

Using some burlap I painted and created the head of Harry. I even gave him his iconic lightning bolt!
Then I dressed him with a shirt, pants and a cape. Put a Hogwarts type tie around his neck .
Since this will be outside I stuffed it with plastic to keep the form and help from retaining water.

I hammered the stake stake in the ground. I topped Harry's head with a witch's hat and attached glove and wand in his hand.

This isn't the first time I did a scarecrow for fall. I have also created one for a Wizard of Oz theme.

Adding the dragon  to Harry's side was what this scene needed.

His tongue waves in the wind and he lights up

It is 7.5 ft tall
Cute, not scary.

I think this is something that kids of all ages will enjoy.

I am going to have fun adding more to this scene. I might have to make another trip back to the store for more Halloween goodies.

What will you create this year?

Porch Redo

Spring cleaning doesn't just start inside the home. Concentrating on the outside of your home is important too. It is time to get the winter grime and holiday leftovers cleaned up.
I put all the holiday things away but there are always remnants that linger. I even found some glitter lying around on the porch. It looked like a thief came in the night and stripped the porch of all its pretty.
I have to say when it is cold I really don't even want to go outside never mind clean! It was starting to look really bad around here. The doldrums was taking over and the grey of the winter days was seeping in.
So how do you freshen up for spring when winter is still around?
You add color!

Cleaning the cobwebs and sweeping the dead leaves were the priority on the porch. There was even tape leftover in the walls from Christmas decorations. I cleared all of the garbage and fixed the furniture in a better position.

I can't believe it looked this bad! I was still finding leftover decorations. I moved the porch furniture in a better position and cleaned the door window .  I added my umbrella wreath I made last year and the color was already making me happy.

Pillows and cushions change things up. The color on this porch is a cream and with the white chairs it was just getting lost. I found the prettiest black and white cushions for the bottom of the rockers. I added some bright pink pillows for some color. I can change the color anytime throughout the year by switching out the pillows. Right now I was looking for something vibrant.

I also found some lawn art to put near the bushes. It is too cold to plant colorful flowers for color so I just inserted a few of these metal pinwheels.

I love the movement of the flowers.

I added some silk hydrangeas to the planter urns till I can plant some beautiful flowers.
Just a few key moves and freshening up with color and this front porch came alive even on this grey day.

I added a few accessories to the vintage trunk. A preserved boxwood wreath on an old window gave me some more green. I found some iron work and mounted it on the top of an old door to give it an architectural detail. Moved the theater seats to the entrance and it was a good start of a complete change. I would like to add an outdoor carpet under the rockers soon.

The front door got a fresh doormat. Now it is ready for guests!

The front porch came alive and it is so inviting now.

Just a little time spent cleaning and adding some color will make the last few days of winter more bearable. This spring I can continue to add other features to enhance the look like carpet, wall hangings and fresh flowers.
I hope this redesign inspired you!
