Pottery Barn is a start for a lot of inspired creations. We love thumbing through the catalog or clicking on images over the computer. When October hit I knew it was time to change my decor into something spooky. I started with my mantle. It went from Fall to Spooky Halloween! I will reveal this on Friday.

In the mean time, I will show you how a little inspiration from Pottery Barn started me with an idea for my mantle change.

I recreated one of the pictures they had. I have a painting I did hanging over my mantle. There are beautiful warm colors in it that really stand out with my fall decor. But when I changed to Halloween it really didn't go.

It all was based on this guy.

The Headless Horseman....da da da daaaa!

I have a little trick that I have used before. I cover the painting instead of taking it down. It is fun to change things up with this technique.

I started with my painting.

I then bought some poster board in black and spray painted it with chalkboard paint.

I pieced together what was needed to cover the painting.

I then found some old barn wood that was needed to replicate the picture.

I wrote on it with black Sharpie.

"Watch Your Heads"

I then wrote with white chalk like the Pottery Barn Picture.
Because my picture frame was shaped differently, I changed mine to fit better.

I omitted the "Welcome" and just wrote "To Sleepy Hollow"

I placed the board inside the frame and added some spider webs.

It is the perfect background for my spooky mantle.

I love the way it came out and how easy it was to do.

Oh yeah! Can't forget the cost.

What a cool project!!! Did you try the lobster tails at Carlo's? I did and they were heavenly! He wasn't at the bakery when I went, so I was glad to see him in my neck of the woods. Ciao!

Very cool! My kids always want me to do spooky. I'm not very good at spooky. May have to try this.

Great knockoff! I like idea of covering a painting! Thanks for linking up this week! Sorry about my wonky button! The HTML was supposed to say height="150" width="200" instead of the other way around! Ooops!
