Donath Wedding

I am very excited as I wait to celebrate my sister's wedding. It is an outdoor reception so we are praying that it doesn't rain. If so, I will have a lot of people in my house.

Today we begin the preparations outside. Here are some of the things I made to go out there.

I cut a piece of corrugated cardboard in the letter of their last name and glued moss to the front.

This will hang on the pavillion outside.

Remember this?
I have used it for a lot of parties already.

Today I will have some more pictures.

Till then I wanted to thank Lesley at The Homeless Finch for the giveaway of precious little mushrooms.

Tammy at Type A for the Award!
Ask Anna for the Facebook/Tweet of my french piano bench!

....And all of you for your wonderfully uplifting comments!!!
Hopefully I will be back here more regular next week!

Map Tray

With my husband home from the hospital and my sister's wedding happening this weekend. The blog world is seeing less of me this week.

Then I go to post a blog and I can't upload pictures! Ugh! Now I can!

I did manage to show you my piano bench and I also did a little tray project.

I started with a huge brown tray with handles at the side and tacks as details. I felt it was to dark. My first thought was to paint it but then I thought it looked old world like it was.

Then I decided to do something with the map book I had. I pulled a few of the pages.

To go with the old world look I used distress ink to age it. I then got out the lighter and began to burn the edges.

I mod podged the maps in a random pattern on the tray.

I believe it gave it the color it needed and still maintain the old world look.

Its a great addition to the sunroom. I get to enjoy it for a little while till it goes in to the store.

I love the way the maps turned out. Kinda scattered.

Like me this week.....ugh!

Stay tuned for wedding pictures!

French Piano Bench

I am so excited about this project! It took me awhile to come up with the idea that I wanted for it. Of course everyone said paste music to it but you know me.....looking for something different.

I started with this vintage piano bench.

The greatest thing about this is it has storage!

I knew that the color had to change after all that what my blog is all about!

I decided to paint the top in a cream color and the bottom black.

I knew I wanted to do something french so I found a print from

It is an old french postcard.

I distressed the top with distressing glaze.

I had wooden knobs leftover from my dresser redo project. They were old and worn.

I wanted to use them on the front of the bench. I also wanted to incorporate the french theme of the handwritten postcard.

I had some scrapbook paper left from my blue cabinet makeover so I cut circles and Mod Podged them to the front of the knob.

Then I went to my stamp collection. I rummaged through and picked out the french stamps I wanted and copied them on a printer. I did not want to use the originals. I cut them and Mod Podged them to the scripted paper.

These will be applied to the front and back of bench.
I hand painted a projected image on the top.

Very french oo la la!

Then with a heavy hand I began to sand the heck out of it.

I then attached three knobs to the front and three to the back. I even painted and signed the inside of the lid. I applied fabric toile to the inside.

 This is the back

I love the knobs!

This has to be one of my favorite projects to date!

Ampersands

Typography is all the rage! The letters and numbers and...... ands!

Ampersands that is!

I made this ampersand out of high density sandblast board. It stands on its own since it is 1.5 inches thick. Painted in brown it sits in the store on a mantel measuring 18 inches high.

Love this statement piece and yes you can purchase it in my Etsy store!
Great for weddings too!
I have one that sits on the floor in front of my fireplace. So many possibilities.

Can be ordered in different colors to match your decor. Just message me what you are looking for.

On another note:
Hubby is doing well recovering from surgery. Thanks for the prayers!

The Unknown Stories

Unknown stories of the past. That is why I like finding an old piece. Some of them seem to speak to me letting me know there was something magical that happened many years ago. I believe this is what lures me out to find the one thing I can't do without.

A story left behind for someone like me to discover....
Last week I found this old knitting box or yarn keeper not sure what it is. Really didn't want to pay what they had asked for it but it was interesting to me. When I opened it I had told the woman there was some things inside but she said it was junk to be thrown away and that it can go with me. It did look like junk laying in there and I kept thinking I didn't need to take home anyone's garbage but I bought the piece anyway.

When I brought it in the house I opened it to throw away what was inside. There was a bunch of sticks that were dirty. YUK!

Then I saw a yellow box. I liked the writing but was sure it was empty. When I opened it I was surprised that they were still in there... pinking shears!
Nice ones may I add. Old but new.

I don't think they were ever used.

This was a little treasure! The rest was junk.... or was it. Maybe to someone but for me no.

A little wooden spool of thread....love it!

Some old felt dots that probably don't stick anymore but love the packaging!

Another old spool. This one opens and has needles inside.

There were also knitting needles and crochet hooks. Then there were a bunch of wooden embroidery hoops in different sizes. One had some paper wrapped around it.
I began to unravel the yellow news print. The date said 1919.
It was a torn corner of newspaper but it told me a little story. A story about that time period if only just a little hint.

About the housewives that can now save money with this cough syrup recipe! I wonder if they would have put this on a blog if they could have!

Or this upright boiler someone was looking to buy ...would they have checked craigslist if they could have? Check out the phone number.

Don't you just want to know the story? Someone leaves something behind...for some its trash for others its treasure. The story we pass along of life long ago. Preserving the memories. This is the reason I enjoy old things.

What story will you leave behind?

So blue...Sitting in a Corner

Once again it amazes me what a little coat of paint can do to a piece. You think I would learn by now!

Add some accessories and you got something worth showcasing.

I started out with this corner shelf. It had an awful cherry finish.

Painted it blue for summer and found some summer accessories to add.

I love the natural colors of the shells on the blue.

Love this pottery!

This table went from blah to beautiful!

I think this is a sweet little table. I love that it is a corner shelf. Makes it a little different. I decided not to distress or embellish this one. I will probably sell it in the store... If I can give it up. I'll enjoy it for a little while.
Tomorrow is my husbands surgery. Please send prayers!
Thanks precious friends! Enjoy your day!
