Black Painted Hutch

Seems like painting furniture is all I am doing lately but I guess that is a good thing. It means I am selling it!

During my move to the new store, I wanted to add some new pieces to my space. I had a hutch that needed some redo. I knew it would look great painted and changed up. Something for display with the holidays approaching.

The before! Bad nighttime pictures but you get the gist of it.

I painted with a black latex paint and added some great knobs.

Love the finish on this piece.

This made a great statement in my booth. I love decorating hutches. There are so many ways to utilize the space.

Ready to be in someone's home. I need to sell it now to make space for all the great furniture I just purchased for my space.

Today my friend Mary moves into her new space in the front of La Vie En Rose and I will be helping!! She is so creative I hope you all come and check out her booth. (Located in Lenox Village Nashville Tennessee).

Tomorrow is my birthday and I will have something very special on the blog to celebrate. Hint Hint!!!

I hope you all are getting ready for the holidays! I can't wait to see what everyone is up to. I will have some crafts going up soon too for all of you to try. Can't believe December is here already!!

Painted Cabinet

If you have been on my blog before I love trying new things. I have bought a piece of furniture before that I have added beautiful papers to. My red bird hutch, for example.

The same day I bought the paper for the hutch I also bought a paris postcard paper that I fell in love with. With the open house around the corner I knew this would make a great statement in the store.

I went with red again because of Christmas. It is such a cute cabinet that would look good in a bathroom or kitchen.....shoot it would look good anywhere!

It was pretty grungy and dull but we all know that is why we paint!! This piece has the perfect storage and the glass doors add some elegance to it. I knew I needed the perfect knobs. You know me and my knobs lol! I found a rustic Fleur de Les knob to use.

I painted a dark grey to the inside of the whole cabinet. Added the paper like I did with my red hutch and waxed to finish it off. Wish I could say that it was easy but the weather did not cooperate. Next time I will not do it with extreme temperature. I took a lot longer than I anticipated and when there is a deadline that leads to ton of stress.

All and all I think it came out adorable. It now graces the window!

Love how the color just transforms the piece. Don't you just love the little postcards and stamps!

So much fun to add something different!

Wow it has been a long time it seems that I have spoken with all of you! I have completed another Christmas open house and a trip to Atlanta! One more Christmas craft festival to go! I wanted to share pictures of my week with you all.

I had the pleasure of shopping at a wonderful Christmas store with the girls of La Vie En Rose. We made a day of it spending lots of money, laughs and dinner! The place had beautiful things!

I set up for the Christmas Open House at La Vie En Rose with a lot of help from my friend Mary whom I will never be able to thank enough. She helped me move furniture and set up. Thank you Mary!!!!

This was one of the beautiful windows.
My booth!

I am in love with this store! They have the most beautiful pieces of furniture. Since opening 3 weeks ago, Jenny, the owner, has sold out of things at least 3 times! The crowd is amazing that come in to the store. The love it so much they send all their friends.

I have sold here more than anywhere I have been. I hope it keeps being amazing because this is my NEW place. I will no longer be at the Three French Hens so if you have been shopping my booth please come see me at La Vie En Rose! You won't be sorry you did.

Caution: You might get addicted to shopping there!

Jenny had an amazing open house and I finally sold my vanity!! Woohoo!

Christmas is now in full swing!

After I set up my booth I went to the Bunganut Pig in Murfreesboro to see my son's band New Found Soul perform all their original songs.

He is the lead singer and guitarist. I am so proud of him. He writes the most amazing songs and music! I love listening to them and know they will go far. My nephew is also in the band. The one with the hat. Listen and please "like" them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/#!/newfoundsoul

The next morning I drove to Atlanta with my sister-in-law Cindy to see my daughter perform in Cider House Rules and to shop, shop, shop!!!

Having blogger friends that read and comment on my posts are so important to having a good blog! I try my best to thank everyone that has commented or featured my blog at one time or another. It NEVER seems enough. I don't have a linky party on my site so I decided in order to truly thank them I would have a Thank You Party!

What is a Thank You Party?
It is my way of giving back! I do this by Showcasing YOU! You read and comment the most!
All I ask is that you read this and GO VISIT the person. If you like them please follow them but that is up to you. If you do, you will be glad you did because they are truly sincere in what they write on your posts and who knows, you might want them to follow you too!

You might be next! I like comments so I am going to start doing this hopefully every week!

Now I would like to introduce you to Tammy from Type A!

Wow, I'm actually here at Dreaming In Color!  Pinch me!  Alright already, I think you just gave me a virtual bruise.  lol
I know I'm a cracked pot, my son calls me crazy, I take it as he loves me and thinks I'm original.
I'm just excited to be here, I love Deneen and her blog!  She always inspires me, and has a great eye for COLOR and design.  Thanks Deneen for letting me be a guest, a true highlight to my blog career!
Okay, so I'm Tammy from Type A, and as I'm typing this I'm watching my puppy do unmentionable things to his elephant and I'm drinking way to much coffee, so bare with me!
Here's a shot of the happy family at Disney.  It's kinda funny, half the picture looks happy, and the other half grumpy, can you pick out the grumpy ones?
I'm mom, a wife and now a blogger.  Funny thing, I really don't remember what I used to do for fun before Type A came along.  I really enjoy my blog and all things blogging.  I love checking out everyone else's blogs and meeting new friends, even if it isn't in person.  Some day I would love to meet all of you!
I started blogging last Summer, partly cause a friend was doing it and partly because I needed a creative outlet.  My hubby has been working in the Middle East for the last two years, first in Iraq and now in Afghanistan, so I needed an outlet to destress.  I don't have to tell you how hard it is being a single mom.
I didn't actually know I was crafty until he left.  I all of a sudden started decorating my house and doing projects, so it's not true when they say you can't teach an old dog...
My first purchase was a glue gun, and it scared me.  I really thought I was gonna burn my hand beyond recognition or something crazy.  I eventually bought an orbital sander and an electric staple gun, so I'm past my fear of tools.  I even own a kiln that heats up to 1500 degrees, so I'm past the scaredy part.
Here's the proof, this is the BEFORE of my living room.
AFTER, do you see the difference?  We painted.
I love to craft, even started sewing, really getting past my fears of the unknown.  Just like with blogging, I was scared at first.  All those questions going over and over in my mind.  Like, will I bore people to death?  or Will folks like me?  It's all seems like a dream now.
With Christmas around the corner I wanted to share a post from last year.  I know you've seen the paper wreath tutorial all over blog land, probably a zillion times, so no tutorial, just the after.
I've gotten so crafty I even NEEDED a craft hutch!
I love to collect too, pretty much anything really.  Right now I'm filling my garage to the brim, for the next house.  I know how crazy that sounds, no we aren't under contract or anything, but we will be some day.  I really hate the idea of missing out on a piece of furniture I might need or love.  Okay, so my garage looks like an episode of Hoarders, I'm not gonna lie.
This was taken last week.
Literally taken two minutes ago.  Now the only problem, I'm out of room, so if I do come across something I have to have I'm gonna have to get storage space.  I would say I'd just repeat this look in the house, but that would seriously upset my type A-ness.  Plus I already have seating for eight in the master bedroom.
I'm so glad to be sharing this at Dreaming In Color, hopefully the hubby won't be reading this.  I have one of those stalker type Hubbies and its gonna be hard enough to hide this when he comes home in January.  Do you think he would fall for, the garage doors are broken?  Or maybe I could tell him I'm renting the garage out and this is somebody elses crap treasures?
Hmmm, I'll think about it some more.
So please stop buy Type A some time and say "Hi", I would love to hear from you.  Plus you should check me out just for my two weekly parties and all the GIVE AWAYS I do.  I have a GIVE AWAY going on right now, and every Tuesday-Thursday and Friday-Sunday I have a party.
Thanks Deneen for having me over, it's been a blast!

Thanks Tammy!!

And thank you all for coming here, following me, reading and commenting on my page!

CMA Awards and projects

The CMA awards was a blast and we ended up on TV! This picture was sent to me by my Sis-in-law! Did you get to watch it? On the right is my niece Olivia. My daughter was in rehearsals at college and couldn't make it. I have to say it is usually better live! My favorite thing of the night was seeing Lionel Ritchie singing again! Carrie was great as usual and the two together, Carrie and Brad Paisley, were hysterical! The Band Perry took home a bunch of awards. Glen Campbell got recognized as a life time achievement.  All and all it was a very entertaining night!

I have a Giveaway going on right now for a handmade ornament and handmade ruffle scarf. Please enter! You have a great chance of winning. Hint: Those that enter will get a surprise.

My project today is a mantle that I got from my sister. I knew I was going to use it for my Christmas Holiday Open House.

This was plain and boring oak. When painted and distressed it transformed the piece. Painting old wood pieces gives it new life.

I found this cubby and it was just so dark I almost didn't get it. It had a heart door I removed because cubbies are so big right not I thought this could be useful.

Painted and distressed it in white and got another transformation.

Great for collections
I love paint and changing a look. Transform something today. I am always amazed in how paint changes everything!

Don't forget to enter the giveaway!!!

Enjoy Your day!

Creamy White Antique Dresser

 GIVEAWAY HERE!!!

As much as I love color, sometimes white is essential in a space. One thing I have learned is that it is a neutral that sells! When I think about what I would like to put in to one of my stores, I know I need at least one white piece of furniture.

I came across this great dresser. It is so dark you can't even make out any of the details. That's where the paint comes in. This is the first time I had a problem working with Annie Sloan Paint. I use several different paints when I restore my furniture. I figured I needed to do this quick so I can get it in the store so I used ASCP. Because of the dark stain it bled through the color making this a headache to work with.

Have any of you had this problem?

I winded up making it work by layering waxes and paint. BUT WHAT A PAIN!

This is how it started out.

It is a really nice size and oh the detailing.

After much pampering I ended up with a beauty. I added crystal knobs to finish off.

It is a creamy white that will go with anything. Lightly distressed, the details are what makes the piece memorable.

I will be joining Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley for the 45th annual CMA awards tonight! The hottest ticket in Nashville! I am so excited! Look for me in the audience if you watch it!

I have so much to do but I am not gonna miss the opportunity to see my favorite country artists!

Have a great day!

Almost forgot....Don't forget to enter the GIVEAWAY HERE!
