Blogging helps me with my compulsion of changing things up all the time. Since deciding to redo my living room, I have taken on too many projects. It slows a girl down!
This is something I can mark off my list like my new tufted sofa and Milk painted coffee table!
Do you remember this white birdcage on my French Provincial buffet?
I sold the buffet but kept the birdcage. I had plans for it!
So I got inside and screwed in a hook to hold my chandelier. It was pretty simple. I bought a chandelier from IKEA for 39.99.
Ok so it is not Restoration hardware but it doesn't have that price tag either!
I painted it coral inside and out and hung the chandelier in the center.
See that column? I wanted to use it as a base mixing the old with the new.
I grabbed my new RYOBI Airstriker and drill and added a base to my column for stability.
I set the wood in place with the brads and grabbed my drill to pre-drill holes for the screws. I then counter sunk the screws to protect my floor from getting scratched.
Once attached I just had to stand it up and screw the birdcage to the top.
I love the ambiance and texture it gives when the light is on at night.
My knock off
$2995
Since I had everything the only cost to me was the IKEA chandelier for 39.99
and a sample pot of paint Free with coupon!
I say I did pretty good!
The best part is I can change the color anytime with paint! For now it is a great feature for the new living room!
Would love to know what you think! Leave me a comment!
See it in the living room here!

what a cool project!
Oh my word! So beautiful Deneen. I love the shadows that it casts on the walls and the color is just dreamy. I want a tool called Airstriker. Sounds so tough! Killer knock off girl!
I love it, Deneen and the color is wonderful!

It's beautiful Deneen. Love the color. Funny I've been staring at my old bird cage (not nearly so fancy as yours) thinking I should turn it into a light...
OMG That is beautiful. You are so creative. I just love it. Thanks for sharing.
Great knock off and at a fraction of the price!
Love it! The color is awesome!
Wow Deneen! What a creative, original and amazing idea!
I just bought an old birdcage last weekend with just this in mind. How did you attach the light?
@chickenstyx I attached it to a hook and feed the plug through the top.
Had to pop over from Silo Hill Farms and check out this amazing lamp you've created. This is a piece of art. Truly stunning!
I just read Dannis guest post intro and she shared this, you are amazing! The fact you love Ryobi would have been enough for me to check you out but that wow newest follower:)
Love, love, love this. Will you please give more specific detail about the electrical part.
Thanks.
