A Magazine Debut

Gosh...never in a million years would I have thought I would be here.
Here...getting hired to blog, opening my own business and now being in a magazine!

I want you to know that life has never been easy. I have had a lot of ups and downs. One thing I think I have always done is I never give up.

I know it takes a lot. I am blessed to have good family and friends to boost me up and help me when I need it.

I feel beyond blessed.

Audrey Hepburn Wardrobe

Audrey Hepburn is a favorite by all and when I first started blogging I painted a dresser with her on the front. It probably is my favorite project I have done. It got tons of views and comments. All because I hand painted it.

You see that is why I do what I do. i love one of a kind pieces and even when you paint something again it is never the same as the original.

When I opened Dreamingincolor store, I knew she had to grace the room.

I had been given a vanity a long time ago from my sis and painted it to sell. Now when I got the store she gave me the matching wardrobe. As I debated what to paint on her I decided it had to be Audrey Hepburn!

Happy Birthday Audrey!

"For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone."

I have used her quotes before on projects. She is a favorite.

It is no wonder that this lady is still an icon. Back in the days of classy and eloquent women, she set an example. She still does today.

I had the pleasure of painting Audrey a few years ago and I wanted to share the post again with you to commemorate her birthday.

This is still one of my favorite pieces to date. I would love for you to check it out and leave a comment! Some of you already have and told me numerous times it is your favorite too. Thank you for that!

She was amazing....

I wish there were more like her for the girls of today to look up to.

One thing for sure is I am glad that I can be the one to introduce her memory to others. My daughter loves her the same.

So Happy Birthday Audrey! Thanks for giving us so much to try to emulate.

All of this in One year

I have been working on this post for two days and blogger keeps messing me up by deleting my content! I guess I can use this as the most frustrating thing in 2011 lol!

I cannot believe this year is coming to a close. It was a year that began with a lot of ideas of things that I wanted to do. Never did I realize that this blog was going to direct my vision.

I just wanted to share some of the amazing moments this year.

My favorite furniture project was my Audrey Hepburn Dresser I got to combine my love of art with my painting furniture!

Your favorite furniture project was my french piano bench!

My favorite and most exciting thing was a redo with The Lettered Cottage for their HGTV Pilot shoot!

I met so many amazing bloggers this year and became very close to some that I have not even met!

Your all-time favorite project was my Utensil Drawer Organizer! It still cracks me up since it is made from paint sticks!

My favorite craft project was my Ticket Sign! It led to me opening up an Etsy Shop!

This is a Golden Ticket but the most popular is the original one in my Etsy Shop!

You favorite craft project was my Dessert Tray Chandelier!

Last but not least one of the most exciting things was getting to showcase all my furniture and artwork in a store! La Vie En Rose Cottage in Nashville Tennessee!
I couldn't have done any of these things without all of you so thank you so much! For more exciting posts stay a while and take the journey with me by following me into the next year!~

Audrey Hepburn Trinket Box

I really love fast and easy projects that have an appeal. Taking something plain and dull and turning it to something beautiful.

I have always like the quote by Audrey Hepburn that says,

"For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone."

That is beautiful in itself!

I found some craft boxes at the dollar store. They were plain, unpainted, hinged wood boxes. I wish I would have remembered to take a picture before it was painted.

I took turquoise and black paint and painted the box in a two tone color.

With the top black and bottom turquoise I felt it was kinda plain. I remembered I had made those flowers the other day.

I glued a white flower to the top and added some rhinestones around the lid.
Then I added a part of the quote to go around the box.

"...for beautiful lips speak only words of kindness..."

It makes such a nice gift box or a place to store something pretty!

So Long, Farewell.....

It is a bittersweet goodbye......

I redo a lot of things and paint a lot of furniture and canvas. Some are just so hard to say goodbye to!

Do you recognize this?

It was just a few weeks ago that this posted and was featured on the web here.

I believe I took it to the store on July 15th

Well yesterday when I arrived this is what I saw!

Audrey Hepburn Dresser

Why can't there be more people like Audrey Hepburn in the world? She was beautiful inside and out!

She is inspiring too! With times changing, she was an image not to be forgotten. One word....CLASS!

I thought of her the day I bought this dresser and brought it into my home.

It had a 1950's feel with the square, flat look and peg legs.

But I was perplexed with how I would transform this piece. As an artist, I don't really like doing things the same. It gets hard when you are painting a lot of furniture. I sometimes ponder at it way too long.

This was one of those times...

I decided to go with a chevron print since I hadn't done that yet but it seemed like so many have, so I started thinking outside the box again.

If you follow me I tend to stray away from the norm. Sometimes good Sometimes bad I don't know.
What I do know is I have to feel it! My art is all about the way I feel at the moment.

So when I decided to go with color, I thought Tiffany Blue and Black.

The colors are striking together. It also keeps the 50"s feel I was going for.

I sat in my living room staring at it for a day and decided to hand paint a figure on it. It couldn't be any figure. It had to go with the feel of the piece.

I thought of the movie Breakfast at Tiffanys. I guess because of the color. Audrey Hepburn had to be the one I painted.

This decision wasn't easy. Painting a face of someone popular is hard because it has to be just right.
So I chickened out. I did. I am not proud of that. Till the next day.

I waited till the next morning and jumped into it thinking I could always paint over it.

I have to say it was hard to do. I think it was because I wanted it to look perfect.

It wasn't perfect but I loved the way it came out. No painting over it! Yipee!

It was hard to paint the image with the drawers at a curve. I don't think it mattered because you are drawn into her eyes.

It changed it from an ugly before.... to a 50's Mod after!

If you like the ideas in this blog I would love for you to follow me. I promise it won't be boring around here! I try to mix it up a bit!

I would love to hear your thoughts! Please leave a comment!
