Word of the Year

One of my favorite things to decorate with are photo frames. I love creating with layers and texture. Frames give a lot of alternatives. Of course I like to use them in different ways. Pictures are great but I also like using them to frame different decor.

The New Year has started and I wanted to do an inspiration wall. I came up with a word for the year and incorporated it in my design. I started with one of my oval frames I got at Dreamingincolor store.

The word I came up with for my inspiration for the year is FLY.
FLY like in soar, travel, take off in business etc.
The definition is to move in or pass through the air with wings
To rise in or be carried through the air by the wind
So this is how I came up with my ideas.

The first frame I used was a Laura Ashley frame. I remove the glass and backing. Only using the ornate frame I nailed it to the wall. I had this butterfly pin and added it to the middle. I love the meaning of the butterfly. Endurance, hope, change, life
It has wings for flight

The next one I used was a pretty turquoise frame. Keeping with the theme, I choose a nest that I also got at Dreamingincolor store. Again I removed the glass. This time I added a layer to the oval frame.

The eggs represent the birth of this idea. Representing birds, flight.....fly

The last frame I used was another Laura Ashley frame. I used the whole frame this time. I even used the paper insert because it was so pretty.

I printed my word of the year "FLY" and pasted it over the words on the paper.

I added my travel sign to the wall. I love the way it came out!!!

The accessories worked too and added to my travel inspiration. I had a book on Italy. The framed picture on the painted dresser was from when I was in Florence. One of my Dreamingincolor signs about travel was added too. This is definitely a wall of inspiration. I cannot wait to see what this year has to offer. I think my photo frames worked perfectly. It is something I will look at everyday.

Staging a Master Bedroom

I have been missing for a while. Life has been crazy. My husband has been in the hospital again. This time it was a hernia surgery turned into an emergency surgery. He is home healing.
Needless-to-say that has kept me from doing much needed things!

One thing I did manage to do with all the craziness is take a home staging course!
I felt like it would enhance the design and redesign services offered at Dreamingincolor.

At the end of the course we staged a home going on the market for sale. This was one of the bedrooms I staged.

Signs on the Highway

Signs, Signs, Everywhere there's Signs....

I grew up paying attention to signs.
Me and my dad used to read them backwards on long trips to pass the time away.
Then when I grew up I became a sign painter.
Even now, I will drive down the road and know when a color was changed or a new one was put up.

Attractions

That is the blue signs on the interstate letting you know there is something awesome at that exit. I like to take detours sometimes to see where they will take me. Of course, there are all the food signs too! And sometimes you find a local restaurant that is really good.

Where am I going with all of this?

A few weeks ago, Dreamingincolor became a sign on the interstate!! From blog to sign!

Is this real? This is super exciting for me!!

Dreamingincolor on TV

This has been one exciting week. For the first time, Dreamingincolor had a spot on TV! Talk of the Town to be exact. Yes, I just said that! This goes down as one of the cool things I have done as a blogger and store owner. Talk of the Town is a local show that does news, weather, and great demos on great topics.

It was great meeting everyone that worked on the set. Lelan Statom is the weatherman. I know Lelan from way back when I taught Forensics (Speech and Debate). He was a judge for one of the other schools. His daughter used to compete. He was always kind and had the best personality. It was so good to see him again after all these years.

Meryll Rose is the host. She was the person I had most of my time with. She is sweet and gracious. What I noticed most was how comfortable she was with everyone and how she made us feel the same way. It's no wonder it is the top show both local and syndicated.

I got 4 minutes of time to show my Dorm Decor. It went by sooo fast!!
I was so excited to be able to use my signature color "Dreamingincolor" on the program. I demonstrated how to paint a chevron pattern, just like my post for Old Time Pottery.

Dorm Decor

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...It is almost time for back to school and it is time to start thinking of dorm decor. Something that shows your personality. Let's face it, there are so many things to purchase. Anytime you can find a bargain, you need to snatch it up! That's were Old Time Pottery comes in. I shopped their Bargain Blast Sale and came up with a few ideas to help you decorate your dorm room. I added a little chevron, color, and pizzazz to a otherwise dull look.

Head on over to Old Time Pottery Blog and get details of the savings and learn how to do this yourself!

Dreamingincolor Summer Mantel {Beach Dreamin}

Summer is upon us and we have decorated a few times here at the store.
One of the things I most enjoy is rearranging the store.
Dreamingincolor has made a name for itself by having fun vignettes set up around each room.
The problem is the don't stay long before we are rearranging again!!
I am not complaining. It is a good problem to have.

We are excited to be celebrating summer. Decorating for summer is something I do all year long at my home. I use vintage suitcases and some beachy things all around. I dream of the beach all the time. I miss the salty air and even the sand that can be annoying most of the time.

Owning a store has put a little cramp in my travel plans. It is hard to leave. So not sure I will be getting to the beach this year.
That is how I came up Dreamingincolor's summer mantel.

What is so neat about this sign is what it is made of.

Painted furniture at Dreamingincolor

Seems these day I paint so much I tend to forget the before pictures to show you. I get new furniture in and it goes out to quick. Thank God!!
So I decided to show you some of the great pieces I have at the store. Some are here and some have sold.

I am celebrating six months in business too! It has flown by.

I have learned a lot and still can learn more.

One thing I know for sure is that I have stayed true to myself and my art. The people that come in say it is because of the different way I paint that caught their eye. That is such a validation. I love to put my spin on my furniture. Doesn't mean it is the best out there or the right way, just means it is my way. I'm good with that!

French Lingerie Chest

One of the best things about picking, hunting and having a store is the unique items you find.
This piece's finish wasn't my favorite but I knew paint could help change all that.
I think a lingerie chest is unique don't you?

I mean, it is very handy, love the shape and how many people have one of these now?

Vanity with Country Chic Paint

Being a blogger/artist I have tested many different paints and waxes. I like stunning color, versatility, ease, and coverage as I paint different techniques on furniture. I also need NO VOC's because that is important for our health and environment. Now that a have a store it is important to have paint to offer my customers that does the same.

I am so excited to announce that I will be selling Country Chic Paint!

Audrey Hepburn Wardrobe

Audrey Hepburn is a favorite by all and when I first started blogging I painted a dresser with her on the front. It probably is my favorite project I have done. It got tons of views and comments. All because I hand painted it.

You see that is why I do what I do. i love one of a kind pieces and even when you paint something again it is never the same as the original.

When I opened Dreamingincolor store, I knew she had to grace the room.

I had been given a vanity a long time ago from my sis and painted it to sell. Now when I got the store she gave me the matching wardrobe. As I debated what to paint on her I decided it had to be Audrey Hepburn!

Dreamingincolor Open House

Dreamingincolor opens its doors for Christmas goodness!

An Open House for my first Christmas in the store!

I have been away from here for awhile. I have missed you all. My husband has been in the hospital.
He is doing ok now but it happened the day before the open house last weekend.

Needless to say, it has been a crazy December.

Me and my Skate Wreath. You can see how tired I was in this picture.....

Dreamingincolor with Crayola

This is a sponsored post for Crayola LLC. All opinions are 100% my own.

I think the first time I opened a box of new crayons was the moment I started dreaming in color.

No really!

It is still my favorite thing to do.....I am not too old for that!
You should try it!

I love the smell of new crayons, all those colors and my favorite one.....magenta. It was always the first color I pulled out of the box.

Crayola crayons were my favorite thing as a little girl and some of the best memories I have is sitting with my box of crayons creating my "masterpieces"!

I use those inspirations in my new store Dreamingincolor

Curio Cabinet

Been so busy at the store I haven't been able to get a post out but when this piece came along I thought you might be interested in the transformation.

I repurpose furniture for a living.

Why then do I still get so surprised at the after?

This curio cabinet came to me as someone's craft project gone bad. I know that is relative but it was bad in my book.

It was spray painted blue. A pretty blue but still not done well...drips and things in the paint.....

The bad part was the vintage recipes glued to the back.

I would have loved that, but they added magazines and colored paper and it was just a design mess!!

Honestly the before picture doesn't look as bad as it really was.

I added a little knob, paint and beautiful fabric to update the look.
Isn't it pretty?

I opened a store in 3 weeks! Unbelievable!

Never thought this could happen so fast. So many wonderful things going on. Getting that first person to walk in the door and buy something was so exciting! I hope it keeps getting better! Please pray for me!

Dreamingincolor Christmas Open House

It has been so surreal to be getting my own store ready for Christmas.

We are close to opening!!

I keep adding to the outside decorations but the first picture I took became my postcard for my Open House.
