Kitchen

One of my favorite rooms in the house is my kitchen. Its not my dream kitchen by any means. It is actually kinda small for me but he layout is great. It seems to have a good flow when I cook. I love to cook and my kitchen gets messy! I am one of those people that when I use flour to bake, it winds up across the room somehow! I do love to cook and bake though.

I use my island for everything and my kitchen aid my mom and dad bought me is probably the best small appliance I own!
I love the back splash and as I was looking in the garage I had found some leftover tiles. I wanted to do a quick project and make some sort of kitchen trivet with it.

I started with a leftover tile and some porcelain paint.

I just did one color but it was very easy to work with.
I found a design of a Fleur de Les on the internet and used a transfer paper to set the design on the tile.

I painted the design and waited 24 hours for it to dry completely. Placed it in the oven at 300 degrees for 35 minutes to set the paint.

You can see some of the blue from the transfer paper but this can be washed off. If I had blue paint I might have used it to fill in. I think it would have looked great.
When finished I placed it in a tiny plate holder and placed it on the counter. I will use it as a hotplate and best of all it is dishwasher safe!

I would love to try this again with more colors! It was fun and easy! It adds a little something to the counter and sits along side my planter soap holder!

I love your kitchen. It is almost identical to the kitchen in my summer cottage. I will have to try your project with some leftover tile!!
