Lamp Re-Do

Remember the lamps I got from the first sale of the new year! They were only $15 each. I thought I could use them but when I brought them home I felt like they where too dark for my sun room. They really are nice but not for in here.

So I first decided to cover the dark shade. I bought a drop cloth yes I said drop cloth and covered the shade. They are a cheap alternative for a great look.

The first thing you need to do is lay the shade on its side and roll it to trace the shape. I cut the fabric leaving an inch around the pencil line. Next I clipped it tight to the shade.

Go hear to see the inspiration.

Ballard Designs

This is the Pottery Barn/Ballard Design inspired shade. I used a glue gun to glue the top and the bottom to the inside of the shade and down the folded seam. After placing it on the lamp I noticed the base was still very dark.

So I added a creamy eggshell paint and brushed it on to give it a plaster look. Kinda shabby but cool texture!
Since this room is so bright I think it did a wonder for the look and it matched with the rest of it. I use a paper towel to take off the paint and smear it around.

I wanted the underneath color to come through. I also wanted to give it more texture.
It already had all the fun details!

I finished it and added the lampshade. I might put a painted pattern on the shade later. I really like the overall look.

This is the before:

This is the after:

It sure did lighten the look and I already had the paint and the material was under $10. I have a lot more left to do pillows for the sofa. Yay! Another project!

I love your comments so don't forget to leave one!

I love the canvas dropcloths and have been thinking of using them for my craftroom.

Wonderful job on the lamp!

What a big change! I really like the aged look you gave the lamp...it really looks quite a lot like the Ballard lamp.
Thanks so much for joining my party!

I love this transformation.. Been thinking of a similar treatment for two yard sale lamp finds of my own.. I think I'll go for it!

That's fabulous! I did a lamp recently too, I just changed the switch last night because it was so hard to turn, when I took it off, you could tell it was the original...yikes!! They just do 't make lamps as nice anymore, so it's great to re-do an old one!
