Spring Fireplace Screen and Mantle

Time to add a little spring to another room! I started with the fireplace.

Over the weekend I wanted to change up the fireplace. It is a traditional fireplace but the tile on it is very dark. I would love to change it one day. In the meantime, I want to lighten it up for spring.

After the bridal show I brought in the two windows I used for the tablescape and placed them in the living room to store away. After looking at them for a few days I decided I wanted to incorporate them in my spring fireplace display.

I cleaned them and placed them in front of the opening to make a faux screen. I wanted to add something springy to the windows. I thought about painting them but then I remembered the paper I used for my Red Bird Hutch.

I applied squares to some of the windows

I loved the birds peeping through and looking at all the chippiness!

I added some spring green knobs to the center to look like little french doors.

It automatically brightened the space.

I grabbed one of these floor metal candle holders to make a nest and birdhouse.

I added my nest I bought when I was doing the HGTV pilot shoot and one of the Paper Bird Clips from my Etsy shop. I love that they can be clipped anywhere!

The best thing is that this can be up all spring without having to change too much.

Then I added my Egg Topiaries (click to see how to make) to the mantle with a little spring banner.

Whoops! That is a puppy on the chair!

Now I felt it needed some color so I went outside and cut some blooming branches.

I love the blooming red buds. I also added some to a vase for the coffee table.

As a last minute thought I covered the rest of the empty windows with some Graphics Fairy Morris-Eggs!

It was just what it needed to complete the look!!! I have terrible lighting in my living room but this Fireplace screen adds a pop to an otherwise dark boring front. I love the eggs. It took it to an artsy piece just by cutting them out and applying them to the windows.

Making a Bird Cage Light

There are so many things out there right now that spark my interest and keep me creating. I love trying to come up with things with stuff I have on hand. As Mary and I prepared for the Bridal Show, we came up with a few ideas of things we had hanging around.

It was quite simple and I think it added some character to the space.

See that old column in the background? It became the base for our light. We added an old animal cage that was missing a top turn it on its side and hung a bird cage in the middle of it. We attached an "S" hook to the top of the column to hang the cage in front of it. We could have attached it on top but it wouldn't have looked as good because of the height.

We then added a hanging cord light from IKEA by threading it into the center of the cage.

We were able to expand the size by adding the two cages together. It also was great to have a ledge to decorate with. We added some paper roses, a Happily Ever After sign and our Bird Clips to the cage and it was done!

We added some fresh Forsythia branches to the center of the column to add a pop of color. This became the mood light for the backdrop of the table.

 Because of the wire cages it is hard to see in the pictures. All in all I think it is adorable! It added that touch of whimsy to the booth. You can bet no one else had it!!! That is what we like to do....think outside the box!

Pink Bride Magazine Event

This month has been a whirlwind! So many wonderful opportunities to take part in.One was designing a space for The Pink Bride Magazine Bridal show in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

It all began with the company Catalyst Weddings and Events. Danielle Loeffler is the owner/creator of Catalyst. It is about event planning with purpose. The purpose is giving back! Imagine all those things you spent so much money on going to a greater cause. I love the idea and I love that Danielle took off with it!

This was the look a few weeks ago in Murfreesboro. I sweet vintage display! For the next show we wanted to do something different. Go to the Feb 23rd blog post at Catalyst to see our feature!

After several changes due to color and space, we came up with a garden theme.

We had an 8x16 space draped with black curtains. We covered the floor this time so we wouldn't see the ballroom carpet.

Pretty dull and boring but a clean slate for something creative.

A spring garden look with blues and yellows. I just loved the pop of color!

There are a lot of wonderful things going on here. I can't wait to show you some more. I will show you some of the crafts we did for this space. Donna from Pink Bride Magazine said that the trend for weddings are going more like our booth!  She is seeing the change in her magazine also.  Yay! We are trendy! See those flowers on the wall, yesterday as I was trying to get some much needed rest, I turned on the Ellen Show and they had some similar on their set! I was a little excited about that!

Lavender Sachets

From time to time I have put together these sweet sachets for my Etsy shop.

I use the Graphics Fairy to download sweet images. I print the images on material and sew it in to a little pillow.

What makes them so special is you can personalize them to your customers! I have made these for weddings, birthdays and even as business thank you's.

I made these for someone's business and they wanted a sunflower.  I fill them with lavender. There are NO other fillers. I like to fray the edges to give it that worn look.

With anything I put in my store, I usually wrap them before they are shipped. I even wrap my local orders.

I have just completed another wedding booth design. I cannot wait to show the pictures for The Pink Magazine Bridal show this weekend! Fun and Springy are the hints!

White and Grey Buffet

Ok I can just scream! I thought I took a before picture of this and I can't find it!@!x!

I am freaking out because if you saw it you would have thought I was crazy to buy it. Shoot I thought I was crazy. It sat in my dining room way too long! Every time I passed by I could have kicked myself. WHY DID I BUY THIS!!!!

You all know how long I have been painting furniture, so why does it surprise me every time I paint something and it turns out soooo much better?

Maybe it is the knobs. My love for great knobs is a little extreme but can you blame me? Look at these!!!

I love these Paris Clock Knobs!! I have painted buffets before but this has to be a favorite! I just love to two colors together~

It is on sale now at the Arbor in Franklin Tennessee.  It can be a dresser, a buffet or a TV stand! 

Love versatile pieces!

 I left the original pulls and just changed the three knobs to give it a little character. So what do you think?

I am getting ready for The Pink Bridal Show this weekend.  We were going to use this....

Isn't this couch to die for? We have used it before in photo shoots. It is a great prop! We loved it but thought it would be to big for the space so we reworked the design. Can't wait to show you!!!

Spring Table

I know spring hasn't sprung yet but when that beautiful sunshine peeps in the window, I am so ready for it to be here!

I decided to get my spring table ready. After all the crazy storms that came through here, I was ready for some springtime color!

All the birds are twitterpated! As they fly around chirping a love song.

So I grabbed things around the house and started setting my table. I used mixed matched dishes and tea cups to give it that garden look.

I used floral wreaths for napkin holders. I built up the center by placing a box under the tablecloth and gave it some height. Added some topiarys and more birds.

I then grabbed a moss covered letter to attach to my lamp. Added some shredded paper to make a nest for my pears. Remember my mother's day nest from last year? I placed it in a covered pedestal dish on my painted buffet. Topped it off with branches!

This will keep me happy till I decorate for Easter! I love the way it looks in the morning when the sun shines into the sunroom.

 

I love using what I already have around the house to decorate with. It gives me something different to look at even though it is the same old stuff!

Serpentine Dresser

I love the old dressers that have details. I also love when they have curves. I found this old dresser and fell in love.

Here she is taken apart getting ready to paint. I knew she had to be white with glass knobs. I think she is perfect for a baby's nursery.

She even has wheels which makes it easier to haul. The one thing I hate about this business! I feel like I am getting too old to haul furniture! My body keeps telling me that anyway!

So I will keep looking for someone to help me (preferably a cute hunk)

I found the glass knobs at Hobby Lobby, of course.

 A little distressing and some clear wax and she was ready to preview at the Bridal Show.

She got stuffed with dried lavender. Just look at those curves!

She is now for sale at the Arbor in Franklin, Tennessee. Next week we are doing another bridal show at the Embassy Suites in Cool Springs. I wonder what furniture I will use for that one?

We managed to escape some pretty awful storms yesterday, I didn't get much done because I was in the closet again hoping tornados would pass. The closet is much smaller now that we have Dudley! He didn't mind being all scrunched up. Its times like this I wish I had a basement! I pray for all those that did not escape the storm.
